about clayton

Welcome to breedtoclayton.com and your interest in breeding to Clayton. As you are aware, Clayton is a clone of Gills Bay Boy (Scamper). What does this mean? From a genetic standpoint, they are an identical match. More than a twin or a brother/sister, their DNA is the same.

I decided to move forward with this endeavor because of various reasons:
  1. Scamper is such a perfect balanced horse for barrel racing.
  2. There has never been a great barrel racing sire, they have always come from the race track or other disciplines.
  3. I thought it would be great for the sport of barrel racing to continue Scamper's bloodline. He would be a great outcross with the Dash to Fame, Streakin Six, Dash for Cash mares.

Keep in mind, with Clayton you have proven traits of toughness, longevity, speed, soundness, good mind, etc. from a barrel racing standpoint not the race track.

Like with any breeding, people are 'crossing' selective mares with superior male genetics, in hopes to produce a foal with good bloodlines. Cloning is just another way to fulfill those goals. As with any breeding, other factors are taken into consideration to produce a great performance horse, such as nutrition, training and overall good care.

At this time the AQHA is not registering cloned horses, however, we will be providing them certification of ownership, bloodlines and date of birth.

As you tour this website, hopefully a lot of questions will be answered, myths put to rest and you will be become more educated with your decision to breed to Clayton.

In closing, I would like to thank you for your interest in Clayton and we are here to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks again,
Charmayne James
